I am going out to Ohio in May to visit family and am trying to find places to Metal Detect out there. Do you need a permit to Metal Detect at Cascade Park? I see you do for Cleveland Metro Parks and have family in both Lorain and Lakewood so I am trying to hit both places.

Thanks

Hey there, they do want you to get written permission unless you stick to beaches and dry riverbeds. The rules for Lorain County Metroparks include this note regarding metal detectors:

"26.2 No person shall bring in or use any device
or instrument used to detect metallic objects
without prior written permission, except metal
detectors may be used on sand beaches and dry
riverbeds only."

Lorain County Metro Parks Rules and Regulations - Jan 2020

So written permission to hunt elsewhere would be required according to the official rules. That said, the park ranger on duty may also be able to give you a verbal "ok" to hunt other areas in the park for the day. Certain places seem to be more strict about rule enforcement than others. Enjoy your visit!
