    Camp Radziminski

About 40 years ago I lived down there along Otter Creek and found this button and bullet, but in an area a ways off from the actual site. The whole site had been pot hunted to death at that time, and I don't know who owns the land now. Tom Steed Lake went in and covered up a lot interesting sites. The back of the button says Wm. Lang, Boston Mass. I'm not familiar with button or bullet identification but I assume they date to when Van Dorn occupied the site.

    Re: Camp Radziminski

There were three Camp Radziminski sites. I'd like to detect them and see if anything is left.

That button was a real nice find. (1850's)

Here's a link to help date buttons:

    Re: Camp Radziminski

This is the 3rd Radziminski site, northwest of Mt. Park, 2late. I located the other two, but didn't detect to confirm them. The Texas Rangers used this site as a base of operations later on. The Buffalo Soldiers had Camp Robinson set up across the creek from here later, too, but that isn't too well known. The crossing on Otter Creek below the narrows is located here, and there's stories of treasure buried there. The old Spanish trail was just south of here along the North Fork of the Red River. Pretty cool place, but the government is afraid I will McGyver my metal detector and mess with their dam. They just opened up the road past the dam last year. Nothing has happened so far. The razor wire impressed me, though.

I've got an 1870's survey plat that shows the location of the other two sites. I was talking to an old timer from Altus that told me when he was young you could still see the trail they used to fetch water from Otter Creek. RGINN are you going to make it to the get together next month?

    Re: Camp Radziminski

I ain't gonna be able to make it down there, 2late. My boss has ideas on when my vacations should be. Here's a shot of Snyder Lake, which is located in the narrows of Otter Creek. I talked to a guy who found a peace medal in the hills to the right. Then here's Twin Mountains. Lots of treasure stories there. I been all over those a long time ago, but didn't find anything cool. However to the east of there, between them and Camp Radziminski, there's some pretty interesting sites.

I found dozens of those bullets at Fort Concho, San Angelo, Texas, years ago. That was a pre-Civil-War site. I also found dozens of rimfire cartridges there.
