    Picher Oklahoma

Anyone MD this modern day ghost town in the north eastern corner of Oklahoma?
    Probably off limits. Maybe.

The last time I was through Picher was in 1953.You could still find a fight or two if you told them you were from Joplin.

    Re: Picher Oklahoma

I remember when this was on the local news in Springfield Mo.
Their were a few very angry people in that town who lost everything they had built and made .
They were bought out and paid very good money for the loss , but money does not buy a home and memory's !
It did not take long for the town to be cleared out . The strange thing is when you drive threw the town and look and see things on the shelves in some of the buildings , it looks just like you said a ghost town or a movie set for a Zombie movie .
Few things I love to do is , Metal Detecting for anything of the past!
Making Detectors better ! Tuning and finding ways to upgrade Detector hardware , To make them work the Best that is possable !

I haven't been threw there since the evacuation, but used to go through there to dodge the Joplin Scales.
I don't see a "POSTED" sign or "NO TRESPASSING" I would whip it out in a heartbeat.

    Re: Picher Oklahoma

I have asked myself this very question. I drive through there on the way to the casinos in Miami/Quapaw, OK when I go to visit my Dad in Pittsburg, KS. Then I come up with the same answer. Remember why the town is a superfund toxic cleanup site. It was because on the enormous tonnage of lead and galena that was mined in the area. We all know that lead is super conductive and I am pretty certain that galena is also. So imagine your self hunting through tailing's from these mines to search for coins.

The outcome will probably be ugly as best. Kind of like looking through steel shavings, dust and rust and trying to discriminate out zinc pennies. I am sure there are some coins there, but everything was paved, filled, leveled, driveways created and such with the crushed tailing's from these mines.

The school athletic fields are still locatable. You might try there and see what the outcome is.

    Good Luck!
