I looked at it on a map a few years back and put it on the 'some day' list. Mainly because I don't have any friends that are interested in actually doing the long hike, etc. If you're gonna go and don't want to attempt it alone, let me know.

The state of Oklahoma owns The 768 acres of Devils canyon. It is surrounded by private land. I'd think as long as you have the permission of one of the land owners to cross their property then that's all you would need. Devils canyon is located between Flat top mountain and soldier springs mountain. Good luck.

This would be a fun hike with several folks! I'm pretty sure detectors are a no-no, but there should be lots to see, film and check out. The adventure alone would probably be worth it! I'm fairly busy with work but being my own boss...I can make the time as long as I have the money!

Anybody know the area well enough to predict a good time weather-wise?

Y'all get in and check it out, pay your respects to the ghost of my great-great uncle. He spent many years chasin tales of Spanish treasure in the Wichitas and particularly outlaw loot buried at Flat Top Mountain. I figure his spirit still walks around searchin out that area. If you see his ghost, it won't be scary, cause it will just be an old guy lookin around and scratchin his head in confusion, and kickin rocks. In life, he was a treasure hunter and not a treasure finder. (As far as we know.)

I didn’t go, not sure about everybody else.. I’ve been away from T’net for quite awhile but would still like to do this at some point. I have a real job now, so I have the money but a little less time, lol!
