    Lawton Area

    Hey All,
MD'er from Michigan here. My son is stationed at Ft Sill. I was just wondering how the detecting is in and around the Lawton Area. We're heading down there to visit him not too long after I get home from Iraq in late April.

    Thanks for any info

    Re: Lawton Area

The Lawton area in general has a lot of history attached to it.
Finding a place to metal detect...thats an answer for someone one else on this forum that lives closer to the area...I'm from missouri.
Supposidly an outlaw buried a couple of saddle bags of stolen gold coins in the area of the old well in Ft. Sill. back in the late 1800's.
A building was eventually built over the site...they think...and the coins have never been found.
Check out Steve Wilsons book... "if you can find it"... before you leave. Some of the stories are true...others...well I'll let you be the judge of that. Its a good read though!!! Lots of pictures!! "Oklahoma Treasure Tales" by Steve Wilson
    Good Luck!!!
