Best damn maps for our hobby, IMHO.

Got a library card? Or even if you don't. Hennepin County Library offers the entire MN collection of the Digital Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps from 1867 to 1970. Viewable online, or download the Hi Res pics.

Go here to get started:

Digital Sanborn Maps (Minnesota) | Hennepin County

If you either don't have a library card or have one but not with Hennepin County, simply follow the link entitled "Apply for a card now". No card yet? Get one on-line. Already got one, even if not with Hennepin County? There is a dialog box where you can type in your existing card number and they'll link your Hennepin County priveleges to your existing card. You'll receive a confirmation via email. PIN number? They'll tell you what your PIN is in their response email, but it's typically the last 4 digits of the telephone number you typed into their form.

Then type in your library card number and PIN here:

https://apps.hclib.org/login/index.cfm?page=auth&resource=Sanborn

BTW, these maps are perfect as an overlay within Google Earth.

Easy as that, and you'll be swimming in the best metal detecting maps available in no time.
