With the Price of Gold in the Mid $800.00 Range
Right now is the time to think about those Almost Guaranteed
Gold Finds Sites.
One of the Best I have found are Swimming Holes.

When the Spring arrives, The Local Pools will be prepairing
for Memorial Day which is the Start of the Swimming season here.

If your area is like Mine, Most of the work will be done by Borough Crews
and / or Teenagers who Volunteer their time to Mow Grass,
Clean the Refreshment stand,
Paint the Pool walls etc. While the Pool Experts check for
Cracks and do other Repairs.

These people are usually the Easiest & Friendliest to talk to.
and getting Permission is mostly just a Formality.

Then there are the pools that are no longer there & Forgotten about.
all they need is a little research to find.
along with the Swimming Holes in creeks, old Canals, at long gone Mills,
lakes Etc.

I'm not sure How many of these are still Detectable, But I'm
confident in saying there is Gold to be found at Every one of these sites
if they can be Accessed. and searched properly.

Great idea Jeff...and I know of one defunct pool that those pics just brought to mind. Don't know the age or anything, just remember driving by it a few times, seeing it in disrepair and unused. Totally forgot about it til now.

Thanks Jeff! I know of one old one outside of Kutztown and thought I had permission to hunt the area but was denied because it is part of the water system and 9/11 caused some restrictions to be put on municipalities in that regard.

Nice thing is Rings were Not only lost From Wet Fingers,
But from Blankets at the end of the day by those who took

Thanks for the great information Jeff. Unfortunately, this is the former site of Rainbow Gardens in Allegheny County. It is now a shopping mall and a car dealership where the drive-in was. Such a shame and a waste of a historic piece of property.

Nice aerial view of the area of the old Rainbow Gardens amusement park, pool
and drive-in. Sorry, but I must make a correction. Rainbow was located in the
lower right portion, now occupied by the fairly new Oak Park Mall. The drive-in
would have been at approx. the bottom 1/4 of the buildings shown in the lower
right of the picture. This is now a Busy Beaver store. The Chrysler used car lot
is near the site where a lounge called the Planter House once stood. I worked
almost a full summer at Rainbow until they found out I was only 14 instead
of the legal age of 16.

I know of an old abandoned swimming pool on frick's lock and rte 724. I don't think it's been in use in 25 years.

there is also a lake I know of on Sheeder road (off of rte. 23), approx. 1/2 mile south on the west (right) side of the road. It used to be called teardrop lake, and was at one time a recreational pond, I know it was very dilapidated when I was growing up (I once heard some kid got his feet stuck in some plants while swimming and drowned, this would have been in the 50's or 60's). Last time I went by, they restored the lake somewhat.

Thanks for the correction Tube. It was a best guess aerial, as the description said it was at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Long Run Road.

innabah is actually not in spring city but is just south of OJR high school (near rte. 23 and rte. 100) I don't know if they still do it, but they used to take the middle school students there for a camping weekend. Oh, the scores of kids who must have gone through there!
what a fun thread...makes me long for the days of summer!
