    1944 Old Familiy Pic

    Hello,
the Pic is dated Marz 1944 - while the 2nd. World War raged all across Europe
we in South America ran out of Oil .
Here in this Photo is my Father with his Chevrolet 1938 .I have marked with
a blue harrow at he side of the truck where in a container the coal was transformed
into fuel to keep the vehicles running.
    It was named "Gasometer" .
By that time even a half liter gasoline was very much preciated .They saved the gasoline
for urgencies ,for instance in case of someone's accident or illness.
    Hard times....

A colleague of mine here At auburn university, Dr Dave Bransby, recently (October 3) set out from ardmore, al and drove a bio-fuels truck to California. It ran on scrap wood, various grasses and other waste products. It is a shame we had to wait another 8- years to be aware that we would one day not have a cheap supply of petroleum. Back then, necessity was the mother of invention. They ran those trucks here also. Thanks for the photo.
