Re: Federal agents hunt for guns, one house at a time
The actions reported in this article seems reasonable and lawful under our present laws. The BATF can, by law, show up at a licensed gun dealer's location and review all inventory and sales records of all weapons moved through that dealers business. That has been the law for decades. Questionable gun sales should be followed up on to stop the movement of weapons into the hands of bad folks.
Having said that, I don't think they should push the situation any further. I am a gun owner and fully support the 2nd Amendment. I also believe that most of the Homeland Security rules/laws are unconstitutional.

Really? So you think that the Federal government can simply knock on your door and interrogate you based on your PURCHASING habits? I guess you and I have a much different view of the 4th Amendment.
My response to any LEO on this issue would be for them to come back with a search warrant. I would be interested to see them convince a judge to issue a search warrant simply based on the fact that I BOUGHT something. Who know now-a-days though.
I do agree with you on the so-called Homeland security laws though.

Dan, please reread the 4th sentence in my previous post. The key phrase is "questionable gun sales". If the BATF find suspicious sales recorded in the records of licensed dealers, or, the dealer's sales records doesn't "jive" with their inventory records, then they need to followup on their finds.
Believe me, I am no fan of governmental interference, but some things are necessary. For instance, if someone buys 4 or 5 handguns of the same calibre on a retiree's income, shouldn't the law follow up on the situation to verify those guns are still in that person's hands and not passed on to felons? There's 2 unlawful actions. First, that retiree doesn't have a license to sell firearms and Second, being in a conspiracy to provide weapons to felons is a felony. When that kind of stuff happens, it just gives gun control a--holes more "ammo" to use against us.
