Detecting beaches near seaside?

What are the conditions? Do you have to have a permit if your metal detecting the sandy beaches? I plan on hunting for coins and jewerly while I am on vacation. If someone could find out by tommorow, then that would be awesome!

Most of the beaches are managed by the state parks!You may call them they would know.I really don't think there would be a problem if your hunting the beach around Seaside.Now if you were to go further north up to Fort Stevens state Park they frown on that and will not give permission or a permit.GOOD LUCK!

Also might just ask at the local police,if they don't care then i wouldn't worry about it.

I lived between Seaside and Astoria till last February. The manager of Ft Stevens told me that detecting the beaches from down from the Peter Iardale (beached ship wreck) was permitted. No hunting in the State Park or area controlled by the state. To Bad too, because there area lots of places to hunt that were once part of the Fort. Parade grounds, 1800/1903 officer quarters, work and supply buildings etc.

I have hunted the beaches in Seaside, Gearhart and up towards Ft Stevens. I would suggest to start in Seaside in front on the hotels and down down area. There are swing sets, volleyball court and sandy beaches where people lay out. Don't expect to see tons of swimmers or loaded beaches.

The waters there are still in the mid 50s even at mid summer. if you pan on doing any water wading hunting better wear good foot and lower body protection from the chilly water. It doesn't take long to start getting numb from the cold water. Maybe another reason to hunt the waters as rings probably fall off quickly shell collecting.

Also, be prepared to find a ton of iron, nail, caps and PTs. Camp fire are permitted on the beaches so there is ton of nails. They also consume a lot of drink around them and you will find 1000s of beer caps and PTs. But if your persistant you can find some really cool finds.

I dug up a 22" man Italian chain going close to 3.5 oz. there. Lots of US and foreign coins. Have a nice col letion of Canadian and Mexican coins that seemed to get dropped by the camp fired and areas where they spread out blankets to sun bath.

Another area you might want to check out is a place called the cove. Its on the south side of Seaside and is the gathering place for surfers and shell collectors. If anything nice is going to be washed up on the beaches this might be the place. Seems to get the brunt of winter storm activity. Tons of shells and crabs wash up in this area from the strong wash. Always wanted to try this area but never make it that far.

I have never been harassed on the beaches of Oregon.
Haven't found much there either. I think the retired locals hit them pretty good.

Will be in Lincoln City for the 4th and hope to hunt there.
There is a casino and maybe better hunting.

You can drive on the beach from Gearhart north a long ways and many people there
but I have only found nails and pull-tabs.

all Oregon beaches are public domain, you shouldn't need a permit.

ANYONE IN OR NEAR SEASIDE let me know I am looking for people to detect with. I travel up and down the coast. Mark
