Oregon wants to end metal detecting on all lands public and private!

I found out about this on another site. Here's a link to sign a petition against this ridiculous Senate bill.

    http://www.petitiononline.com/ORBill64/petition.html

May have already passed in the Senate and is heading to the House. I don't have the time to investigate this thoroughly. Can anyone else find out what's going on?

It's nice to see that Oregon has so much time on their hands, and extra money in their pockets, to expend energy on such a communistic bill. WTG Oregon lawmakers! You never cease to amaze me.

I don't live in Oregon, but if they get this passed there, it could spread all over the country. I gladly signed it. Look at what they (the gov't) have done to smokers across the country in the last few years. They have taken a "legal" product and just made it almost impossible to use. A law like this opens the door for all kinds of infringements on individual rights. It might not be long before it is "legal" to own a metal detector but impossible to use it anywhere.

A friend of mine was gracious enough to take the time to research this bill. The following excerpt is in regards to what she uncovered:

In the 2005 legislative session there was a SB 64 dealing with
the knee jerk reaction to the idiot (Illegal Artifact Dealer) in Grants
Pass that ransacked Indian burial grounds and got federally sentenced. It
dealt with archeological digs primarily - but it did not make it out of the
Senate committee and was never sent to the house - it couldn't be enforced.

SO it looks as if there was in fact partial truth to the online petition. However I think we were all a day late and a dollar short in signing it....myself included!!

I apologize for the confusion. But it is good news that this is old news.

Ah well better late than never but I damn sure don't want this kind of thing sneaking up on me....Kinda hard to believe I never heard anything about it when it WAS a potentially valid bill...........

    Happy hunting folks
