I have visited overstock.com and they have something called a Platinum Series Discovery? anyone ever heard of this brand, was just looking for a cheap well working detector thatt would hold up a while as a back up, the price pretty much says it all thats its probably junk but i was just curious, any input would be helpful. Thanks and HH

I have not heard of this one either. If it is at Cabels' it might part of the Bounty Hunter line. Just a guess, though.

Cabellas, sells the Bounty Hunter and the Minelab detectors and the Teknetics this one you are asking about sounds like a Bounty Hunter

they are right, I checked into it. It's basically a BH landstar in a new box, looks nice, but overpriced (479.99)

You're far better off buying a used U.S. made machine than any of those Chinese toys.

Personally, I'm no big fan of BH either...nuff said.

Get a used Tesoro or even a new Silver uMax and you'll be way ahead.

Yeah, it looks like my (only) BH Landstar, the one I paid $30 for in like new condition. It's really underpowered, but I did find a spot for it in crushed rock parking lots. However, my other detectors work better there. In rock parking lots it does ok for finding rings, etc - if they are near the surface, and it doesn't have enough power to overdrive the detector due to all the minerals in the rocks. A Tesoro or Compass does a lot better though, so the BH just hangs on the wall in my utility room.
