    The Rocha's treasure

    The treasure of Rocha
Around 1648, the captain Francisco Gomez Rocha hid near Potosi (Bolivia) a treasure of 170 tons. During 30 nights it took in a tunnel of an old mine the treasure accompanied by their slaves. In the last trip it poisoned them and closed the entrance.
Gómez Rocha was the biggest culprit in the falsification of the silver currencies in Potosi mint and from several years the richest man in the city.
In 1649 he tried to poison a governor and it was condemned to death and executed. He never revealed the hiding place of the treasure.
In a letter of the viceroy from the Peru written to their king from Lima on April 2,1650, he affirm that: ...... and although it is known that Rocha had hidden great quantity of money, he didn't declare anything..... General Archive of Indies (Seville) Section Lima, bundle 54
This is the history documented with primary source, of one of the so many treasures hidden in Bolivia.
Have a nice hunt in Bolivia
