Tom and Perry's Gol Bag??
Hey Ya'll
I joined The GPAA not to long ago and you can order their gold bag for a discount when you join.
So, I did. Now the question is, " How do I get the gold out?" It is Blonde sand, not Black. It is so fine that I don't know what to do. I am new to this Hobbie and would like some help. I thought I would atleast get a small picker out of it, just joining and all. But to no avail I have nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated or ideas.
Thank you in advance,
Bang

Re: Tom and Perry's Gol Bag??
Did you get the panning kit? You will need two pans and a tub
of water to practice in. Put a rock in the pan on bottom and pan
the sand into bottom pan while tapping the edge of pan to let the
gold reach the bottom. Keep the pan with sand under water and
let the water take off layers of sand with a steep angle and back
and forth motion. Keep tapping with the heel of your left hand
until you are down to a half cup of sand. Now swirl counterclock-
wise until you and see gold on the lower left of the pan. Suck the
gold fines out with a syringe into a glass jar. Repan to get what
you you missed.
Now you just have your heavies and gold. Use the syringe to
separate the gold from the "black sand" and place in gold bottle.
Wasn't that fun?

I would also watch as many videos on proper panning techniques. If you got the Buzzard Special there was a video included. Practise, practise and more practise. When u become proficient, practise some more. And remember, always use a backup pan.
I too, recently joined GPAA and am glad I did. Keep on hunting that elusive yellow stuff and good luck

Re: Tom and Perry's Gol Bag??
try placing a known number so #8 lead shot in 1 gallon of sand to practice with. shot being round, is a bit hard to keep in the pan, but if you can get all the shot, you will find the heavier gold.

Re: Tom and Perry's Gol Bag??
anyone that is prospecting needs to know how to pan.
you suck the mercury up with a bottle and filter it, i do it all of the time and its not rocket science.
to clean the gold you just retort or clean with nitric acid or both(depends what you feel like doing)
i get gold that you cant even see without a scope by using mercury and it works.
if it was easy everyone would be doing it

Hey Beaks..Could you post your 'process' for using mercury and what it will and will not do?
(If you have time, lol)
Thanks

Tom and Perry's Gold Bag == rip off
I made the mistake of purchasing a few of these bags after I joined the GPAA. I found only miniscule amounts of gold in them. These were by far the worst pay dirt / concentrates that I have ever seen! I suggest purchasing from other sources.

Re: Tom and Perry's Gol Bag??
I bought my daughter a bag of the Felix Paydirt for Christmas this year. Needless to say I panned it out the day it got here and pulled out about two grams. It was the $80.00 bag. I wouldn't order this for myself but it seemed like a good idea for her. Darn Gold Fever got the best of me though.

Re: Tom and Perry's Gol Bag??
i got my mercury online but dont know how to separate gold from mercury. just dont wear gold wedding ring or mercury will turn gold ring silver in color. i too have cons. with micro gold, seen only using 20 or 30x loupe.

Re: Tom and Perry's Gol Bag??
I wouldn't suggest mercury to a beginner, like myself. I hear its dangerous. I dont plan on using it until a sourdough shows me whats up(safely) in person. Classify your cons and do a ton of reading of seperating fine gold from black sand. I have a homemade blue bowl that works. Use the sniffer bottle you got to pick up the micro gold specs. Its a shame they didn't give you at least one picker. Shame I didn't get a bag of cons when I joined the GPAA lol Watch the panning dvd you got with your membership an pay attention. HH

Re: Tom and Perry's Gol Bag??
Jack is right. Please don't fool with mercury on those cons. There is just not
enough gold there to take a risk. I wear my mageyes and use a sniffer tube
to pick up tiny specks in the pan.
