How to Pan for Gold: Free Instructions

Here's a simple, basic introduction to gold panning:

    http://www.tn.gov/environment/tdg/maps/pdf/goldpan.pdf

And you can't beat the price for these instructions.

There's a sub-text here - check your state agency for mining and geology. Most states offer free and low-cost, accurate information that is as useful and is it local.

Some of the states with the largest gold production - Arizona and Nevada come immediately to mind - sell publications with information useful everywhere.

Additionally, you may be surprised by what may be found in our state. Have you read "Gold & Diamonds in Indiana?"

    Good luck to all,

Never had even the slightest interest in panning, but, that link you posted was EXCELLENT!!! Heck, might give it a shot one day. Looks so easy even a caveman I can do it

Thank you! Panning is easy in the sense that it is not a complicated process. It does, of course, take some practice.

It's hard work. But it does work - that's why it's a world-wide practice that has been around a long, long time.

During the Great Depression the US Government published at least one handbook for amateur prospectors on how to find gold. It wasn't a way to get rich, just a way to "make wages" - at least enough to eat, being outdoors, exercising, etc.

Today panning is either strictly a hobby or one technique to analyze a prospect.

If you've never done it, give it a shot! And take a kid out there with you.

    Good luck to all,

Great and helpful pamphlet. Another good help is this video that I have found to be the best on you tube.
