    My best day ever.

I've been prospecting for 2 months, and this is my best day to date. I'm tired but excited.

The creek I am working runs north south, but im only finding nice gold in a 20 yard section of the creek. Does anyone think that the creek could have ran west to east at one time and that's why I'm only finding food gold there? Or is the source nearer to the spot I'm working? Any ideas?

    Hi CP,
First nice gold, Congrats! Gold combined with Mother Nature is a fickle thing as it seems to do things that do not make sense. If it is totally related to the current creek then any type of unusual occurance could have caused it to drop in one place. However, it came from a source in the first place so there is a reason why it is where it is only thing is that reason may not be obvious to the untrained eye. My eye is still fairly untrained so do not feel bad.

Pictures can tell a much better history than words so if you could post some pictures of your spot without giving it away then folks like Lanny, Eagle Down, Hoser John to name a few might be able to give you some better inputs about your spot.

Pictures should be taken with a Non GPS signal camera so that means DO NOT post a cell phone picture as it carries a GPS tag that can be used to locate your spot. Congrats on the find...........63bkpkr

I found some more color today. I also think I figured out the creek. I found some gold about 19 feet up from the hole I was working and then realized the creek used to run a little bit further up the bank. Very cool day.

Use what you learn in this creek to find color elsewhere. Success breeds success! Tnx for the pics! TTC

I am strictly into metal detecting...and saw these posts about panning for gold and it got my curiosity up...just curious..how much would your flakes of gold be worth? Or is that just a good sign, that there is more out there...I read that someone had a piece as big as a piece of rice...maybe it was you...how much would that be worth? Just curious...I never heard of people panning here in KY, but maybe they do...Anyway, I know I am asking a lot of questions, but was just wondering if all gold had the same value, as far as weight goes, or if there is different grades that makes it worth more...and is this something new that people are doing, or have they continued since the times of the Gold Rush in CA? This is just the first I have heard of it, as far as looking for it in so many different states, like MA, for example.

For me I am not to worried about value at the moment cause I'm trying to learn all I can about how gold travels down a creek. I would say that in 2 months I have found $50. But the fun I had and knowledge I have gained will only increase my ability in the future to find more valuable pockets of gold.

The reason I pan for gold is the lack of water we had this year and this creek is tiny. There just isn't enough water to sluice. As far as panning is concerned, Gold panning in CA is as old as the gold rush. We have a lot of exposed bed Rock and the cracks get filled with gold, so it makes panning a real exciting form of prospecting. I plan on getting a metal detector as well.

As far as value goes, I sold some gold in mariposa and the guy told me that he pays 70-80 percent of fair market value cause that's what mariposa gold checks in at purity wise.

    Good times happy hunting
