I've also heard if you put your hands in the dirt and mix it around all your find gold and flakes will flout away is that true?

Also when panning is moving the pan around in a circular motion a great panning technic?

develope your own method.I would not get carried away spinning the pan....whats it doing?Why?You want the gold down on the bottom of the front edge...you spin it,where is it now?
