A Little Panning After Work

I got home today and started reading my favorites in TNET. After reading for a few minutes I decided that I should be shoveling instead of reading. Took my pan and shovel and some water and hit the SF American. Fortunately there was no release upstream today and I was able to get about 20' further out into the water. Scooped behind a rock and came up with a shovel full of blue clay. It was 103 on the way out there but on the river there was a cool breeze. Had an enjoyable time.

Blue clay...............Blue lead!! id keep digging! I read the book of "Lost River of Gold" and it also said that there was a branch of that river that branched off through to the Midwest to the Mississippi River.... ive been looking for it!

We have many blue lead rivers here The Calaveras, American, Yuba that were uplifted to the tops of the ridges and then cut through by newer rivers. Hard pack cemented blue gravels and good with gold. The old timers found outcroppings and then tunneled into them. Some were as wide as 600' and some tunnels stretched more than 6000' feet up the river encountering boulders, Islands, huge boil holes and benches. Gold luck in your search for the one near you.

Doubled down with a Friday after work session in the same hole. Water was chest high to start with then went higher and forced me out. Got a little.

Had a friend once who worked on a mining crew on a drift mine that tried to follow the ancient riverbed. Huge polished boulders deep into a forested mountainside, bedrock traps containing monster nuggets. Then they ran into a fault shift. Nobody knew which direction the continuation of the riverbed was. After a couple seasons, they just gave up and abandoned the mine..

This was the Hilda mine, located above the Wild Plum campground near Sierra City, ca. If you hike uphill from campground, at about 500 ft. you will start to see some of the boulders that rolled on down from the Hilda's tailings.

Got back out to the clay hole this morning and worked til noon. I puled up a large iron rivet, square nails, bullets and a pocket knife along with various lead . Got a small picker late in the morning. Sorry the pics never come out well. Iphone. Here is the same gold one in the plum pan and one in the blacl.

And another great find. I was interested in that giant piece and that pocket knife. Odd find with the knife, but that means you are on heavy gold if your finding those big chunks and heavy metals. Keep going! We want to see some more gold pics.
