The color looks off a bit, is it from the camera? You can clean it by putting it in salt and water, then just shake till it's clean...
But I prefer to simply heat it with a small butane torch to bring the natural color back.

Some nice gold there! I remember joining some friends who had a claim on the North Yuba River in 1978. My friend and I panned for gold, while they (the claim holders), sucked dirt off the river floor and sent it through a sluice that was floating on the surface. I found a little over a pennyweight in gold over 5 days. Had a blast
