Question regarding red seal $5.00

I was given a1963 $5.00 red seal bill that belonged to my Dad. About the only thing I've found out is that this is not common. I was curious as to why the mint prints/printed some bills with red seals/serial numbers.

I'm not interested in value, to me it's priceless.

The '63 red seal designates a Legal Tender Note (versus a National Bank Note, a Federal Reserve Note, etc.) with the signatures of Granahan and Dillon. A couple of years ago, the retail (Red Book) value of the bill in VF-20 was $12 ('star' was $30). In UNC-63, the values were $30 and $100 respectively.

no mint has printed paper money. they leave it up to the B.E.P. to do it. . i read some years ago that the red seal notes aka united states note was printed because the government had already printed all the FRN notes that they were suppose to and still needed more because of demand i also read that the red seal bills were never officially backed by the government. weather this is true or not i am not sure.
