Cleaning bills

I picked up these beat up red seals from a bank. They have a musty smell and mildew in them. I read to put them in dish soap and clean them with a soft toothbrush and then air dry them on a towel. Thought I’d try it and see what happens. Can’t make them worse then they are now.

Red seal on the left indicates Series of 1928 (A through F). Rarest would be the Series of 1928 F and, of course, any STAR bill.
Red seal on the right (without the motto above the Lincoln Memoril) indicates Series of 1953 to '53C. Each has the same value if bills were in VF-20.
Red seal on the right (with motto above the Lincoln Memorial) would be from the Series of 1963; millions issues--with and without the STAR.
An interesting find, for sure.

It got most of the crap off of them, but not the actual mold spots. However, they were in such bad shape that it started to take pieces of the paper away. They still have the mildew smell. I heard that if you wrap them in fabric softener sheets, it will draw the smell out. So that’s were they are now. Will leave them there for a few months and go from there.

I like them. I like to collect all them older bills even rotten ones.....I am a big collector of star notes too!
