Herr's Island...Pittsburgh (Washington's Landing)

It's a shame....I detected here before all the new development and I haven't drove on the island for many years....I don't know if there is any detectable land left.

I think it's a shame they (local government) have the option of destroying historical sites on a whim when it benifits a select few. http://www.ce.cmu.edu/Brownfields/NSF/sites/Washland/INFO.htm

All the townhouses they built.......I've seen this island completely underwater with only the very tips of the trees showing... :icon_scratch:
I guess they have insurance.

But my detecting adventures here kicked up lots of old silverware.
My father clued me in to why I was finding forks, spoons and knives out the wazoo.

Pig Hill was where they ran the pigs to the slaughterhouses on Troy Hill. They were offloaded from trains and kept in pens on the island.
It was common to collect garbage from surrounding businesses and restuarants to feed them. Naturally...silverware was mixed in with the garbage.

I'm sure, had I had computer/internet access, and was able to view these maps beforehand...my finds may have been a bit different.
