Myerstown Community Park OK to hunt?

Anyone know if hunting is okay to detect in?
Boy does this place look good! These trees are huge!
This Old house is right by the road going into town. There are three parks to hunt here, one is ball fields.

sorry but i've never been to any of the myerstown parks but i'm sure if its not posted "no metal detecting" on the rules sign then ya shouldn't have a problem, esp since these are community parks.

Ive been by there a few times delivering back at GAF and thought the same thing, The historical markers by the house kinda made me stay away, but like someone stated, if theres no sign, there shouldnt be a problem.

Re: Myerstown Community Park OK to hunt?

There are historical sites in Pennsylvania I've been to, Pithole,Pa. is one example, where they explicitly state "No Metal Detecting" in the park rules. National historic sites are mostly off limits as are historically significant sites of archeological importance.
But a park with an historic marker is a different animal.

I've used this as my benchmark for detecting public property. If they list rules somewhere and nothing is mentioned about detecting, I go for it. An historical marker is NOT a "No metal detecting" sign, it is simply preserving the memory of the site or an important event.

That said....if I were you...I'd detect it. And as others say...just detect it, don't go buggin the powers that be because sure enough, ask enough people and someone will say no simply because they can.

deepskyal, thats how i look at it too. there is an old township park in leesport that i was gonna take the detector to the other week, infact there must of been a carnival leaving cause on the monday morning i was there a few of the rides where folded up and waitin to be pulled out, out of habbit i checked out the "board of rules", most were the norm...no alcohol, drugs, guns, pets must be on leashes, and then around rule number 9 was "no metal detecting" i couldn't believe it this park was basically a playground and didn't have anything historic or atleast any buildings around it. i was glad i looked at the sign of rules that day

I drive all over PA for work. When I see something interesting I take notes and pics. Sorry if I alerted anyone to your backyard.

Actually right here in York the park I have yet to hunt is the York Water Company park on the top of the hill across from York College. This place is OLD! I talked to one of the guards who said in the spring there are several guys with detectors who hunt the sled riding hill.

There are three parks right in this town. Actually this is not the park that interested me the most. It is the smaller one that the swing sets are made of very old pipe fittings that is closer to the heart of town. If you look on Penn Pilot, Year(1937) you will see baseball field that is no longer there but I think the an old age home is built over top of it now.

I am always keeping my eyes moving but unfortunately don't have spare time to check everything I see out. Kind of like torture really.

Most days I know I am not going to have spare time so I don't bring my detector with me.

I drive past there quite often and have often thought about detecting Reservoir Park. I was going to check this summer to see if there was a sign allowing or disallowing metal detectors, but I never got the chance. It sounds like it must be allowed...

Re: Myerstown Community Park OK to hunt?

Hey, thanks to jeff for bringing this post to my attention. I HAVE hunted this park!!! The signs do not say anything about no detecting. I know the Isian Myer house has been detected ALOT over the years. The whole park is a decent place to detect. I have not pulled anything out other than normal clad and a few wheats. Jeff was actually down here and detected with us at this location. No one will give you grief about detecting there. The building and the surrounding park is beautiful and has seen so much action over the last 100+ years. Thanks

Just because there is no sign there dose not mean detecting is allow. You must check the park rules and see if there is something written in there. I learn the hard way years ago in Ohio. I found a nice old park and there was no sign so I was hunting it and a police offercer came by and I got a $200 ticket for digging in the park. It says in there rules you must not disturb any plants or remove anything that is below the ground surface. So check with rules before you dig.....Matt

I never even thought about the water company reservoir, I might have to go out there tomorrow if I have time. Thanks
