Well I'm new here so I've been spending alot of time learning how frustrating this hobby can be.
So far, I've spent 9 hours and have found 2 modern bullets, 3-4 old cans, some type of metal junk and some pull tabs. Thats it. >:(

I'm in Berks County and will be posting frequently as soon as Santa brings me my Garrett Ace 250!
I'm also looking for MD buddies to share the fun of the hunt with.

welcome to the hobby Don. I live in Fleetwood and hunt the area. Maybe we can get together sometime after the 250 makes its appearance. We might even manage to drag some others into the hunt. What about it Jeff?

I live near Shartlesville and other than hunting a few local parks of late
work has been keeping me home with the goofy hrs I have had to be there.
Not long but just bad timing for the day. I am looking forward to being laid off
the next 5-6 weeks as it should give me some time out weather pending and a
little rest from that place.
I am in the forum everyday I just do not post a lot of finds as clad is not the big
interest unless it is in unusual amts.or odd piece.
I have been doing a very large amt. of research on some places in the area and
hope to have something good to post in the future. We all know the drill if you
post to soon on something that may be a good lead you usually are beaten to
the find.

A group hunt sounds like a fun way for all of us to meet maybe we can get
something together.

I belong the Berks Cty Historical Society and use thier library for research when I get the chance. I'm originally from NY and married a local girl after retiring from the US Navy a few years ago. I use my wife's memory to seek out good places. I have tried the Hessian camp with no luck.

The Hessian camp area has a lot of targets, unfortunately almost all are trash. I haven't hunted that area including Pendora Park in some time. I know back in the 1940's the hut remains still existed but are now long gone. If you want to give it a go sometime let me know and I can meet you there.

While bear hunting on Penobscot Mtn., I came across a clearing that seemed out of place. In the corner stood an apple tree! On the tree were bear claw marks. No bear were seen, but it looks like I've got an old homestead to hunt! :)

don,
welcome to the board.
I live just south of reading, and though
I am more of a archeology/geology type person,
I am also a big history buff...I am sure I can give you some spots
to hunt locally:
I do know that there were several gun manufacturers
just south of Mohnton (there is an old metal sign on the side of
the road that shows you were along the creek)
http://www.mohntonpa.com/history/gunmakers.html
Also , there were several industries (carriage repair/ gunmakers, etc..)
along the closed portion of RTE 82. I can't find my book at the moment,
but here is a link to a book about Scarlet mills:
http://jerebrady.com/books/ssm_tc.html

A couple of other good sites I have found:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genphotos2/index.html
here are old maps (great to look at, check for old mines...
lots of them around, also alot of old limestone kilns in Oley)

Whites Prizm l l
Hi PA hunters. This is my first post but i've been reading the boards for a month or so. I bought my wife a Prizm ll for her birthday and condo warming gift. She just bought a condo 1800 ft from the oceans edge in South Jersey. She got curious about MD'ing on the beach this past glorious fall as she is the beach bum in the family. She was excited for the gift and couldn't wait to learn how to use it.

Anyways, her first expidition was Thanksgiving morning beside a small lake here in southeast PA. A nice little picnic spot. She detected, and I dug for 2 hrs. Found some change ($.79), a lure, a sinker, some slag ( I think it's the term experienced MD'ers use). There was a shotgun shell brass and a fishing reel found in the tall grass.

Hello to all. I think the group hunt idea would be fun. I know theres lots of Rev. war history around me in Chester county. I am in Coatesville area. Reading isn't very far away from here. I have alot of old Rev. war maps that show some promissing areas if we could get permission. They would be great group hunt areas because of the acreage that would need to be covered.
