We shoot a bit of game now and then, and one thing that hasn't gotten better with the transition from lead to steel shot is hitting one of them with your teeth. Ouch and $ !!!!!

Is there a detector or pinpointer that will find the shot that are left in the bird? My Garrett Propointer won't even find a #4 shot right at the end of it, much to my surprise.

Is there anything out there at all that will find shot, either lead or steel?

YES! Your post made me curious so I went and grabbed a steel Daisy bb... My TRX beeps it, starting about two inches from the tip. ^_^

I would think any of them would....

They should, but OP says his Garrett does not. I just tried my el cheapo cen-tech, and even it beeps a bb, but from about 3/8" away. Not nearly as powerful as the TRX.

It would make a difference if the shot was steel or lead with either the pInpointers..

I wouldn't see why that would make a difference. I have 3 different models of pinpointer and they all find even tiny pieces of lead and steel in the hole...same with aluminum which is quite a bit less dense than either of those metals.

I have found a staple ( the thin wire staples made for papers) in a hole with a coin with the Garret AT Pro.

After reading this thread, I went and tried seeing if my Nokta Pointer was able
to "see" steel or lead shot - it couldn't, even with sensitivity turned way up.
The shot was (stainless?) steel or lead, anyway it wasn't magnetic .
The ol' Pointer can find pretty small pieces of metal, but not very small bird shot.

I'm going to have to try this when I get home. I don't understand this at all...
