this little broken piece came out of a hole i detected..there is a lot more stuff there..mostly what I found was broken..the site was a former garrison of armed constabulary soldiers in New Zealand and abandoned around 1877..would this proof mark be about that era..thanks in anticipation..des

Can't quite make out the year letter - is it E?

The number under the IV is day of the month it was made
Letter on the right corner is the year code - E is 1881
Letter on the bottom would be month - I is July
The number on the left is a makers ID

The IV = ceramics
Floral would be the pattern name
Rd = registered

yes, it comes out to be the bottom of a cup that came from england ..stacks up as it was at an old constabulary abandoned site that was all go in the 1867 till 1887..it was part of a pile I dug after I was lucky enough to find a nice buckle and a calisher and terry cartridge,,,bit stuffed, but I have never found one before....all the pottery was all finely painted but broken and I thought I would bring a piece with a makers name on it to get an idea of the age...great forum this they nailed it straight away..cheers
