I have found pieces with this similar glaze. Not sure of a date range. What state was it located?

There were a lot of potters in Virginia. In my opinion, these guys were the BEST at it. My guess is that the sherd you have is either wood fired in a groundhog kiln or it is salt glazed, which was very common in the 18th & 19th centuries. Alkaline was another glaze used. I have a sherd that is very similar in color. My oldest son found a piece a few days later that was from the same vessel; the piece fit together with the one I found.
