Hello All, Can anyone tell me about the gold foil around around a old picture, the picture is small and it has like a gold foil all around all sides. I will try to post a pic of it later. I have had the foil ( it is more like a metal than foil ) off and there is something stamped into it but i just cant make it out. Can anyone give me some info on this?
Good eye goldgrubber on the print at bottom of 2nd picture ! After looking at it from what you said that is what it read's. Also i never thought about that just being brass, I just for some reason thought it to be gold trim around there. ( I was wishing it were gold! ) My stupid, I have alot to learn from you fellow's! Thank You for pointing that out.
it looks more gold to me than brass, but you really need to check with a test kit.. Looks very pliable, and even thin brass is pretty brittle comapared to gold..
You never think you need an extra machine, until the one you have breaks down...
Those appear to be ambrotype images. Typically the metal around and over the glass is a decorative piece of brass. The images themselves were worth $10-$25 a piece before the disassembly more if they can be identified. Now that they have been taken apart any value has probably been lost.
Sorry,
Michael
