hi i have been running across a lot of silver plated flatware at garage sales lately.is it worth buying?is all silver flatware marked 925 or sterling?i bought a few pieces marked 1881 rogers A1.would this be silver or silver plate?thanks for any help you can give me on this.

For the most part save you money and stay away from the plated stuff. There are some items that are collected, but not easily found or known. I usually stay away from "Rogers" stuff. I buy some coated copper stuff for my copper scrap, if I can get it cheap.

Most all silver items are marked. Coin, 925, sterlings, halmarks ect....

Go to the "Garage Sale Finds" area to read and learn more.

The only silver plated flatware I bother with is the occasional Railroad or hotel marked piece. The study needed to ID plate patterns would take more time than I am willing to invest. For me PLATE/PLAGUE = things to be avoided!
