    German D-marks

This might not be the right place to post this but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. I have a 5 Mark coin dated 1951. The mint mark is G. It supposedly weighs 11.2 grams and is .625 percent silver. Can anyone give me an idea of how much it's worth just for the silver? Thanks.

Based on the numbers you posted there would be around $8 of silver in it.

That coin contains .225 of an ounce of pure silver. The silver value is as Wayne said. But if you go to sell it a coin dealer will usually discount heavily because old foreign silver is not considered very popular among bullion buyers.

You would probably get more from a collector of such coins.

Thanks fellers, for the information and advice. Could one of you explain how you computed the numbers you posted so that I can do it for my self in the future? Thanks again.

There are some coin books that list weights and compositions. I simply googled the type of coin you had and found some online listings that told how much the silver content was by ounces. Then multiply that number by the going rate per ounce for silver. Roughly 8 bucks and change for melt.
