Anyone Refine?
Ok. So I had 3 grams of gold from panning and I wanted to melt it into a ball so I took it to work and found a steal allen head bolt and put the gold in it (The Bolt Is Real Big) And used the torch to melt it. Well you know what happened..It melted to the bolt. This was long ago when I was a newbie. I know what a dumb dumb thing to do. So what I was wondering is if anyone refines and would be willing to get the gold outta the bolt. Or if anyone wants to trade the bolt. I will trade it for 1 gram of gold. Because of the work to get the gold outta the bolt. I will Gaurentee that there is 3 grams in it. Actually there is alittle over 3. I have had this bolt forever and wanna do something with it. If you wanna get the gold out and Take a gram outta the cut I would do that to.

Re: Anyone Refine?
Here is the bolt. It will need a full refine nitric acid and the whole works to get the gold back. But I will Gaurentee there is 3 grams of gold in there.

If you melted it down in there, how come you just can't turn the bolt upsidedown and melt it out of there?
Does much of it coat the steel and won't all melt out?
Just asking so I'll learn,
Bill

Re: Anyone Refine?
Fun with treasure, I might be interested, I am a goldsmith, I have an acct. with a refiner out east. You can buy a crucible with a built in handle for melting your gold, you can make a notch in it to pour it out. The crucible must be glazed 1st with boric acid or casting flux. Rio Grande in Albuquerue, N.M. is a jeweler supply very easy to open a acct. with them.

Re: Anyone Refine?
Send it to ARA in TX. They will acid refine and send a check less 2%
That isn't different than gold filled.

Re: Anyone Refine?
That's funny. Brings back some memories. I tried the same thing 15 years ago in a steel gold pan. Similar results.
