I would just send it to ARA and let them do the work. They only charge 2% on gold and 10% on silver.

For jewelry refining, this book can't be beat, even though it was written 71 years ago. This is the best price you'll find for this book. Everywhere else, it's about $20 more. Includes a lot on the platinum group metals also.

A very interesting book you might enjoy is The Big Silver Melt by Harry Merton. It is about the largescale melting of silver coins back in the middle of the 20th century and while I know you are looking into the melting of jewelry this book will detail how much work is involved in any melting operation. Your library might have it or you can request it through Interlibrary Loan.
