    New Standard

Is $30.00 the new low standard for silver. Since late November it has been between $27-$29, lately it has been over $30 at a steady pace.

    Re: New Standard

You're right on the price of silver between $27-$29/oz......I believe the price is controlled. The closing today was at $32.20/oz, which was alright because last night I purchased 17 Morgan and Peace dollars for $432 ($25.40 each --- $24.90 silver value each....just 2% over spot) and 61 pre '65 Roosie dimes for $92 ($142 silver value ....35% UNDER spot). True, due to the silver being controlled, silver will be on a roller coaster for awhile until something financial blows up....then watch out.

I have been doing the same. I have been buying a bit over the past few weeks. Glad I didn't wait for it to drop to $20. Although it still could do that I suppose. Most of my new purchases were under $30 including premiums.

I have picked up some 10 oz bars, some lightly abused Maples and ASEs (for 50 to 75 cents over spot), some tubes of the Buffalo private mint rounds and some Merry Christmas-- holiday bars/rounds. I know a couple others on here have been buying a bit too over the past few weeks.

Well I went to an auction this morning to pick up 4 lousy Morgans as that was all the coinage they had but they went for $40.00 a piece so I decided on other silver items which I don't usually do. here's what I got.

    1. 1000 finess (Pure Silver) silver footed bowl with heavy repousse and is probably old colonial silver and is inscribed 1756. O! and it weighs 11oz'z

    2. Sterling Gorham childs mug and the weight is 2.22 oz's

Junk Silver price (Sterling Silver): $358.42 and I paid $195.00 + premium and tax about $220.00

Also I think the Bowl will go for a lot more on fleabay.

If nothing else, the longer we stay around $30, the lower the premiums will become. When silver went down to $27 a few weeks ago, the premiums were such that you couldn't buy from the online dealers for less than $30. Premiums were between 12% and 15% on stuff that usually carried a premium of less than 5%. That's very telling.
