I was moving over the past week and while packing my stuff discovered some 10 oz silver bars stashed that I had forgotten about. I decided to sell most of them and the best I could get from my local guys was 25 cents below melt per ounce. I haven't sold 10 oz bars in a while but I don't ever remember getting less than melt. These were new looking pretty bars still in the plastic and not toned. It was like found money to me so I am happy I sold them when silver was at $20 ish level. For what it's worth the premiums on the buy side are lower than they have been in years at my local stores so I am not complaining.

PS I am contemplating selling the remaining ones tomorrow or Monday. Maybe my addiction to silver is weakening.:tongue3:

Sold the rest today to a friend for melt. Glad to have the extra fiat right now. I still am way too far into PM's and need to further diversify.

If we compare silver to a supermodel babe, I would say that from 2011 to Jan 2016 silver has been like a supermodel babe girlfriend that lies to you, cheats with your best friend and steals your money. So in that case, supermodel is not such a good thing.

Maybe going forward silver will be the supermodel babe that you want to marry but we'll have to see.

Just my opinion.

Jim,

Is silver "melt" what the refiners' pay: Spot price less 20%?

Bill,

In this instance, melt and spot are the same. For a 1 oz 999 bar/coin, spot and melt are the same. I don't know the terms refiners use in that I have never send anything to a refiner.
