Wow - I supposed that coin would be a big target for theft. Of course they will melt it down...

I visited the royal treasure museum in Vienna last year, and I saw so much gold, it blew my mind.

Good thing it was the Canadian coin they stole and not an American one, given the exchange rate and all! :laughing7:

I wonder if the thieves got the idea to steal this from watching an Episode of Museum Secrets, as I swear I just saw it on there in the last few weeks?

Amazing, they have lots of valuable coins there, no cameras??, no motion area alarm system??

Sounds like they just broke a window, got inside and either lifted the coin and glass case up and carried
it out, or cut it, if it was a large case. Sounds like the only protection was that the case
was bullet proof, big deal, piece of cake to cut through.

Local pawn shop has better protection.

It would take a couple of "big" guys to cart off over 200 pounds of gold. They need to check out all the local Gold Gyms or at least some furniture movers.

300+ lb safes, that weigh more than the gold, are stolen intact all of the time, especially when they know ahead of time what they are dealing with. They just dropped it out the window and picked it up outside into a vehicle somewhere. Ask Tommy Lee, Pam they had the sex tapes in a sturdy safe over 300 lbs
it was just picked up and put into a pickup by some thieves, wasn't bolted.

With the current funding of museums, I'm surprised how they have not been looted yet, there's security systems just childish. Come in and take whatever you want.
