    Gold in Electronics

    How much gold can be retrieved from computer parts like processers and such? or should I just throw 3 computers a hallf a dozen or so processers 5 hard drives and such in a dumpster and forget it.
    Sometimes I wake up grouchy, Sometimes I let her sleep!

    Lots, but you would need lots of electrical components that use gold to make a profet at it. Then you would have to chemically leach the gold out to recover it.

    Please don't throw all the electrical components in a dumpster. Most electronic things contain elements like mercury and lead. There are many services that take away your old electronic junk and dispose of it in an environmentally safe way.

    Services? You mean like the local water supply? Thats where I toss all my mercury and lead...its just easier that way.










    But yeah, usually if you put them on the side of the road on trash day, the waste management people will put the electronics where they belong......in the local water supply muahahahaha

    As a note....people are selling computers for scrap metal on ebay.....nice prices it seems.

    There really is not that much gold in electronics. The gold that you do see is actually a very thin layer. The layer thickness is around .000,05 inches thick (Trust me. Not worth it). When I buy my PCBs with gold plating, I get charged a fee for the extra labor involved. Not the actual gold, and this is probably 200-300 PCBs at a time.
