some people... I missed a gold deal.

My buddy's girlfriend told him earlier this week she had some gold jewelery she wanted to sell. He told her I'd take a look at it and try to give her an idea what it was worth before she took it anywhere and that I would probably beat their price. She said OK. He and I waited for her to call.
Last night(Friday) he comes over and tells me she called him at work and says "Well I sold my stuff. They gave me $350!"
She sold it all to a local jewelery store chain. I can only imagine how badly she got taken.

Always hurts to miss out on a steal.

You need to KNOW your stuff going into a sale to get a good price... and it doesn't seem like she did from what you wrote. Hope for her sake she got a good deal...

whenever i meet people i usually ask them for scrap gold jewelery right after hello my name is......some people just dont get it....people ive been beggin since gold was 1030 are just finally handing it over now...i tell them all you cost yourself hundreds of dollars. others go to gold parties or local dealers....they generally get 10-20% less then i would have offered them. *sigh* some people just dont get it

Re: some people... I missed a gold deal.

I had a friend of mine a couple months ago tell ME he sent some gold off to one of them TV adds, I don't know which one but it was in NJ. He knew better being a gold miner but he had done some leaching and melting and really didn't know what he had in that blob. They sent him an assay back that said he had sent 1/2oz of 18K gold and a settlement check for $40. He called them and said that were'nt enough, they said to send the check back and they would return the gold. I never heard the rest of the story till last weekend while we were camping. I asked him about the deal. He said they lost his gold and all they would do was send that same $40 back. Meaning when the add says if you don't like the settlement we'll send your gold back, what they really mean is if your stupid enough to send us your gold you will take what we give you for it.

a friend of my dad's sent some silver coins in to one of those places with a "silver back guarantee"......well they sent him a check for about half of what it was worth.....he complained so they told him to return the check and they would send his silver back......well he got a big blob back with clad quarters showing......my coisin had sent off for one of their envelopes to send her gold off....i told her to let me take it to a guy i know that gives about 3 times what pawn shops pay......got her $840 for a handfull of 10 and 14k
