Duckys Thread - Georgia Panning and Prospecting.

Well I was able to escape the kids today and get out on the creek by myself. This is the 88 acre property I have permission to basically do whatever I want on lol. There are 3 creeks that combine to one where I am doing my panning and here are some pictures of the 3 gravel bars that im going to start working. These gravel bars are deep apparently and they are mostly quartz with assorted stones and I haven't even gotten close to the bottom yet. Ive already dug 2 feet off of one of them thats IN the creek bed and haven't seen clay yet. im getting about 5 to 10 colors of flour gold per pan. I got run off by thunderstorms so brought home half of a 5 gallon bucket to pan out. here are the gravel bars.

That is some good looking material in the creek or creeks! Good luck and I sure hope that you hit some great pay streaks in the gravel bars! Man, I would love to run some of my' metal detectors up those creeks and along the banks. Just might hit some nuggets or some heavy concentrations of Fine and Coarse flakes and small nuggets.

Where I'm digging I'm finding lots of glass, odds and ends of metal, and fist sized quartz. Today I found a piece of 1" round stock of aluminum. About 4 inches long.

I actually have a question. the creek is quite shallow. damming it up is proving to be difficult. it just goes around my dam on the bank and escapes me I really would like to sluice there. production would be amazing. its like 95% flour gold. any recommendations?

Edit: can I just lay some gutter pipe in the creek? lol

If I can find small tool box ribbed mat.Your welcome to it. I'm not sure if it can be bought at any store or not. I left a bunch of stuff when I moved. I'll dig around and see if I brought any. I've used plastic gutter with it glued in for fine stuff in low water creeks. It has to be classified down a little and will hold the fine stuff pretty good. You just have to clean it out often to your save bucket. I've seen guys cut corrugated pipe in half too. I think its used for gutter extension.

This is what I'm trying to explain! lol Turn the volume off! The wind and background noise will drive you nuts. It just gives an idea.

There weren't really any laws in ohio. This guy was in a park where people walk their dogs and play. lol You could pretty much go anywhere. There wasn't much gold though! lol These were usually heavy traffic areas. I never did it here, because I didn't want all the attention. I wanted to be kind of hidden!lol

Nitric's idea of corrogated pipe cut in half linear with it's length has long been used for capturing flour Gold during cleanups and would work in a creek. Just like he stated, you will probably have to clean out some heavier rocks and material unless you classify the material first. In any case, I see no real problem with damming up the creek in the top and bottom pics. Just build you a dam at the upper end of the gravel/sand bar with bigger rocks, leaving the center lower for laying the upper end of the sluice across the center of the dam. As the upstream pool fills up, you can then adjust the angle of the bottom end of sluice up or down to get the correct flow you need to achieve. You might have to shore up the dam on the gravel/sand bar side once you dig the gravel/sand bar out too close to the dam, otherwise you risk compromising the dam.

What kind of sluice do you have? It looks like you should be able to run there. In the first picture there is a bit of a drop. Start building out from there.
