Haha only you Kevin would throw in a casual update from PORTUGAL. You would make a great host of a TV show "Prospecting Elsewhere" with your host Kevin!

Got out digging for a little while on Thursday to try out a new sluice stand, courtesy of Kevin Bell. It is designed for the AMP sluices but fits my 36" Bazooka Prospector really well. For a smaller Bazooka you could just run a bungee cord from one side wall, down around the underside of the sluice/stand and back up to the opposite side wall. The stand is well built & compact enough to be easy to pack in. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1497244259.840641.jpg
I took it to a creek that was running really high with spring melt. No way I could have set up in this spot without a stand and so nice to set up where I wanted to shovel of course [emoji41]

I'll be writing a full review on my website soon but was eager to share is winning result :)

ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1497454481.358682.jpg me out sampling an area on Seven Mile Creek above the Cache la Poudre river. Downstream of gold bearing Areas and the only unclaimable, diggable spot around that mining district. Hoping to find a spot to include in my book but...skunked! Darn.

Fairplay has gold, but it is hard to find places that are open to prospecting, panning, etc. So, other than the GPOC area and the Fairplay Beach, would be interested in other areas!

I found other areas: two free ones and two pay sites. I'll give you the info on the side Dave but most folks will have to wait until I can get it all written up :)

Got out sampling (wife waiting in the truck really limited my time) on the Arkansas River below Canon City. The river is at its annual high flow but there's still places to dig if you look!

Also went for a cool hike on an old railroad bed with multiple tunnels. It's at the west edge of Canon City. Wife and I both loved the hike...

Next stop, Cripple Creek. Had time to go into town after setting up the trailer so we did the Molly Kathleen Mine tour. 1000 feet down in a man-cage, lots of fully operating equipment demos underground, multiple veins, gold copper mercury iron ore veins, underground train ride, etc. best mine tour ever...even including when I was working for Cyprus Amax and got into "our" mines!

Hey Kevin, I noticed the areas you Co guys post have a ton of cobble. Much like some of our rivers that were hydraulically mined up river. Was old hydraulic operation up river the source of all the cobble in your area as well?

Some of it yes. Others were dredged with the sort of dredge Tony Beets likes. Those left giant cobble piles full of fine gold!

Sampling downstream from Cripple Creek town on the stream of the same name. 10-12 colors per pan. Shame they are almost all -150 mesh. Still, way fun and so pretty!

Even my wife (making a goofy face!) got into it. She dug a sample and panned it down...and found color :) Makes me happy on the rare occasion she joins in!

...the gold from my dig in FairPlay CO. I love the tree shaped picker. Not huge but cool so it won't be melted down :)

Also got out today on "straw creek". Always makes me happy to be there :)
