Hey all, I got a lot of positive feedback on my club posts so I decided to start a journal of our club’s adventures.

Our latest outing was at a claim we visited two months ago prior to the storms. Several of us who have been with the club for a while were in awe at the drastic difference the storms made. Areas that were 6” water depth were now 3-4’ deep to bedrock. Areas that were bedrock were now covered in gravel. I’ll give more details with the pictures.

The crew arriving and getting ready to get at it.

The material in the foreground was 3’ deep prior to the storm. That is where the creek used to flow.

Looking at this picture, at the top where the trees overhang, that used to be built up deposit from years ago. The creek blasted through it opening up that channel. Where you see the log at, several of us worked that area extensively two summers ago. There is a bedrock cap to the left of us in the picture. We followed the bedrock down into the hillside. We were 4’ down where that log sits. The new deposit of gravel almost covers the bedrock cap.

This is an area that has been hammered hard over the last few years. We’ve pulled a number of pickers out of here. The broken bedrock you see is bedrock we have moved around to get the good stuff. That used to be the end of a bench of material that had about a foot of material on top of it.

Same area. The creek used to be down to bedrock in this area.

Talk about crowded. From what I was told, none of them had much success. And these are our experienced members. Granted, some of them aren’t as agile as they used to be.

ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1524932940.309859.jpg
This was shown to me by the claim owner for inspiration.

I didn’t get picture of the area I worked. There was a log jam above where I worked 2 months ago. The log jam was blown out and my hole was filled in. Where I had my sluice set up was now 3’ deep. I sampled a crevice and worked that for a couple of hours. Sad part is, my sample was was the best I got. I decided to take a break and rethink my area.

I went back to the Bronco, grabbed a bucket and filled it with ice and waters and delivered them to the members. This was the first warm weather outing so I wanted to make sure the members were hydrated. Not to mention, I wanted to check on the newer members and provide assistance if needed.

When I returned to my area, I decided to start digging out my old hole. I wasn’t expecting to find much but I was pulling as much as the first time I dug here. I didn’t get back to the Bronco until 6. That’s the longest day I’ve worked in years. I haven’t processed out my concentrates, actually, I haven’t processed my concentrates for about three months.

Stay tuned as I have a weekend outing planned for the month of May. Should be lots of fun as we are testing some ideas for contests for our gold show in August.

If anyone wants to come, PM me and I will give you all the details.

Mike

Hi Mike, and thank you for the write up. The weather looked great, I'd have to believe that everyone was Glad to be out and working in the water. That was a nice incentive piece the property owner showed off.

I'm wondering where your club outing was at, not actual specifics but generally like above Sacramento, or above Rocklin or above Auburn or how close to these towns and at what elevation. I play along the North Fork of the American and I know it is WAY High though no real amazingly high water flow values this year and I do not expect there will be and I'm just looking for any information about the conditions at what elevation.

Again, thanks for the look see as it is fun for us shutins to see what's happening out there................63bkpkr

We were in Tuolumne County near Columbia, Ca. The atmospheric river hit Tuolumne and Mariposa counties pretty hard. As I was driving home from work during the storm, visibility was less than 1/8th mile. Mind you it was rain, not fog. Craziest weather I ever drove in. Glad you enjoyed the write up. More to come.

Sure is. 3-4’ of new gravel. I’m planning on going back with my Highbanker. Should be easy digging.

How's this for a club outing?

Hey everyone, I wanted to share the latest outing of Delta Gold Diggers with you.

I assumed the role of Outings Coordinator last year. My goal was to improve the number of attendants at our outings by changing the way we do things. First was to plan the outings at least a month in advance as opposed to last minute. This allowed our members to plan ahead. This change resulted in an average of 30 attendees per outing over the last year.

It's been on my mind since I assumed the role to do a weekend outing. I originally planned this outing to take place in March, however, Mother Nature dictated otherwise. The Club's calendar, as well as mine, was full in April, so I scheduled the outing for the second weekend in May. When I made the announcement at the monthly meeting at the beginning of April, I was reminded that it was Mother's Day Weekend. I decided to take a chance and keep that weekend as there were no other weekends available.

The wife and I went into planning mode. Our plan was to provide lunch for everyone on Saturday and follow that up with a small raffle. Our budget was around $400. We also wanted to have a potluck dinner for those who were camping and those who planned on sticking around for dinner. There was a lot of prep work to be done before the outing. As seen in previous posts, we had to clear the downed trees on the claim. The weekend before the outing me, my wife, and a freind went out to the claim and knocked down about an acre of weeds and sprayed what litted Poison Oak was present. At our monthly meeting in May, which was just before our outing, we told the Mother's that we had something special in mind for them.

My wife and I arrived Thursday night after I got off of work. When we arrived, four of our members were already on sight.

I procedded to set up my trailer and the outing HQ.

By Fiday evening, the rest of our campers showed up.

Some even wanted to get a jump start on mining.
dgd28.jpg

Later that evening, we all gathered around the campfire.

Saturday morning, the wife and I drove into town to pick up the members that were coming up for the day and one additional camper. When we got back to camp we began signing everyone in and selling raffle tickets. When we thought we had almost everyone signed in, we walked the claim and got the stragglers to sign in and buy raffle tickets, and took some more pictures.

Well, something happened while creating this post and I am missing some of my pics. I was going to try to continue this with an additional post. Anyway, served lunch to everyone followed by a raffle. Some of our members stepped up and donated some raffle items. Around 7 pm, we all gathered again for our potluck dinner followed by another evening camp fire. The outing was a great sucess. Everyone had a great time. This is the first of an annual event. I will post the missing pics in another post.

I forgot to provide the final stats. We had 23 for the weekend and 22 for Saurday for a grand total of 45 miners. We served up 60+ burgers and the "Mother's" all enjoyed the cake we had made. Funny note about the cake, we had it made at Walmart and everyone has heard about the stories. Well, we thought walmart did a great job on the cake until my wife nitoced the error when she was cutting it. Can you find it? I guess we ended up with a typical Walmart cake.

Well, they can't spell mother's correctly but as long as it ate well it served the purpose. Looks like a great outing and your plan to have more members attend is working out, congratulations on your planning and all the effort you and your wife put into it!.....................63bkpkr

I didn't see any issue with the spelling of "mothers" but "We can toO' was what we saw.
