I'll say this..that guy has definitely got the YouTube shtick. Looks
like he's made quite a few "mystery of xxxxx" videos.
Spent years running around the woods..never once seen a
staircase...seen a lot of weird stuff, but no staircases.
(note to self: If you see a staircase in the woods.... )

Maybe it's a tiny Flying Saucer

with a Gigantic Entrance
sort of like the Tardis. bigger on the inside

Staircase that lead to nowhere are for confusing the spirits. The Winchester house is full of them. But seeing in the woods would be a bit odd.
