Nice Autobiography of an Iowa farm boy that becomes a smokejumper out west and Alaska, as he starts his family.

set in the late 50's through early 70's.

Very interesting book, I often wondered how much Smokejumpers could do by hand against a fire, it turns out they can do a lot.

Often dropping dead snags that had been struck by lightning, and had flames and burning embers shooting out of their hollow trunks.

Also cutting fuel breaks ahead of the fire, and setting back fires, all while living out in the bush for days at a time. Very Brave young men.

Good book, I would recommend it.
