Favorite Authors

I haven't been on here for awhile. I was wondering who some of your favorite treasure hunting authors are? Some of mine are of course KvonM and Charles Garrett, also Robert Marx has some good books. And a name I don't see on here very much H. Glenn Carson. He has several great books. These are all vintage books though. What about your favorite authors? Any newer ones? I'm always looking for a good TH'ing book.

On another thread I broke down treasure hunting literature into four general categories:

I. Fact
II. Folklore
III. Fantasy
IV. Fiction

But then there are the "horizontal" cuts, if you will. Are you a treasure diver? Chances are the WPA Guide for your state wouldn't do you a whole lot of good. But if you're out there swinging a metal detector, you'd want that book long before you'd invest in a copy of The Homewrecker.

A cache hunter would give his (or her, let's be fair here!) eye teeth (whatever those are) for a bootlegger's diary or a rum runner's journal. Which a Civil War relic enthusiast would use for a door stop.

Now, each person's favorite book is each person's favorite book. I recently saw a documentary that emphasized how many people in scientific crime investigation got started reading Sherlock Holmes stories. Perhaps just as many treasure hunters began with Treasure Island.

I picked up a couple of books from Mark Smith and really find them helpful.

I second this. I have Metal Detecting by Mark Smith, and it’s a really great book for anything metal detector related. He discusses how to find gold, coins, relics, etc., what the different detectors do, and the science behind metal detecting. I read the whole book in a week and I really enjoyed it.
