The author sent letters to all the states to assemble a “one source directory of all the laws of State and Federal lands
regarding metal detecting . . .“ and requested their “individual state laws or federal laws including antiquity laws
concerning the use of metal detectors . . .”
The book is an assemblage of the responses from the 50 states and a couple of other federal entities.
This occurred in the early 1990s so the information may no longer be applicable.
His goal was to “educate and inform all prospectors, coin hunters, relic hunters, rock hounds and artifact hunters
in all states to know the laws of your state and respect them in regards to metal detecting in State Parks and on Federal Lands.”
The book contains copies of documents (letters, newspaper articles) showing how laws are inconsistently or unfairly applied.
