Here a find of 2005 and 2010, where the provincial archaeologist has written a about. I was also very proud about this .

Thats better pictures. The reason it caught my attention is because I study Saxon/Viking Stirrup Mounts & yours is very similar.
Its modelled on what some call 'the howling beast' & academics says it depicts a 'Lion' as shown in the Crowland Psalter. The mid-11th century Crowland psalter has a similar beast craning upward to grasp the point of a spear held by Christ (Williams, 1995, page 2; fig 3 & page 3), and others appear in the borders of the Bayeux Tapestry.
Those on ebay call it a howling wolf.

I can see 3 attachments; top, top left & right. Does it have a flange on the reverse? Or bottom attachments?

I agree with thier 9-10th C attribution, although if Williams is right it would need to be the 11th.

Its a rare find & if it is a stirrup mount its an unclassified variant.

I have only had a few stirrup mounts. I wish I could get more.:tongue3:

Perfect it has a shallow flange on the reverse with 2 fixing holes. This is 100% a Stirrup-strap Mount, & like I said a very unusual design that I have not seen in combination with this shape of mount. I hope you don't mind that I add these pictures to my database? CONGRATS

In case you don't know it connected the leather strap to the top of the stirrup.

Its a different type of mount, but it shows you how yours worked & where it went:

I know there are thousands of types. I have a couple of those pictured in your book, but also not seen some of the others. I will save that image as well, thanks.

What is the name of the book, I think I might buy it?
