OK, hold the jokes (lol). I found this hoe blade at a possible Colonial home site. I need to find out the approximate age, just the century it was likely made in. I'm guessing 18th or 19th century.

does it matter how old she is? Clean her up and put that fine piece in a display to show her off to your friends.

I'm trying to determine how old the home site is, that's the only reason I wabt to know.

The problem with dating a site with farm implements or tools is they could have been 100 years old when they were brought there to be used. But it's somewhere to start for sure.

That is a pretty common pattern, I have various hoes of that pattern that are generally from the last century. Too much corrosion for me to see any details like how it was forged or cast. I use and make pretty much the same sort of pattern for vegetable production. If the blade is very thick near the handle eye, it is most likely forged and could be very old, the corrosion itself might be a clue but you would need other objects of known age and equivalent iron/steel that were buried in the same area, soil profile. Good luck.
