they may not have all been Good Luck Charms, Or war souvenirs.

I heard about this for the First time Last night on episode 1 of a New NatGeo show called
Strange Truth.

Apparently it was all OK till Hitler invaded Poland.

looks like it may be a good show to learn some hidden History
and little known Relic Hunting Sites.

There Were American Nazi Summer Camps Across the US in the 1930s

These summer camps, organised by a grassroots organisation called the Deutsche-Amerikanische Berufsgemeinschaft, or German American Bund (“bund” meaning “alliance” in German), were established in the US during the latter half of the 1930s.
By the time they were shut down at the onset of the Second World War, some 16 of these camps and family retreats had emerged, including Camp Siegfried in Yaphank, New York, Camp Hindenburg in Grafton, Wisconsin, Camp Nordland in Andover, New Jersey, the Deutschhorst Country Club in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, Camp Bergwald in Bloomingdale, New Jersey, and Camp Sutter near Los Angeles.

To the unsuspecting observer, the 25-minute silent, grainy black and white video from the vaults of the U.S. National Archives seems to showcase a quaint, carefree summer camp for boys in 1937.
Healthy, happy, high-energy guys — against the bucolic backdrop of the Catskill Mountains in eastern New York — pitch tents, get muddy, play checkers, shoot rifles, box and wrestle one another, raise a Nazi swastika flag ...

there was something about, they said George Washington was the First American Fascist
and that Lincoln was a Great Nazi.
and the young boys & girls were encouraged to sneak around for Extracurricular activities, to create the master race.

But anyway, as I said. Historical Relics at these places,
including Kids Caches could be all over these former camp sites.

there might be more than mere kids cashes ...many Nazi spies were given --cash , diamonds and gold to buy information or to bribe folks with not reveal the fact that they were spies if they got found out ...the money might have been hidden at the camp sites ..and once raided and closed --they might have been afraid to go after it ( being caught as a spy during WW2 was a "death pen. crime " ) and post war -- they I'm sue were afraid to go there for fear of being watched by the FBI

. The fact is the Bund meshed very well with local residents and joined a wide cross section of gun enthusiasts, beer drinkers, campers, and political activists, this threatened the FDR

Regime and the power elite.
The Bund developed their summer Camps throughout their well
-
developed Regions.

1940germanbundatnordland.jpg

There were three German American Bund Camps
in New Jersey in Bloomingdale, in Griggstown, and the largest, Camp Nordland in Andover.

Camp Nordland opened on July 18, 1937. Local residents were very supportive. Camp Norland’s opening
festivities drew 10,000 German
-
Americans to small town of Andover, population 479 at the time. These out
-
of
-
towners patronized local businesses, they were however encouraged to only buy from Aryan owned shops. The
Andover Fire Department even raffled off a car at the opening ceremonies of the camp, selling over 1,500 tickets.
This flood of economic influx resulting from Bund activity led to tremendous local support the Bund. The Bund
demonstrated that well organized Ethno-Nationalism could be a tremendous economic force.
Interestingly, when
Camp Bergwald was opened in Blomindale, the Ku Klux Klan showed up and protested the Bund as being a
“Socialist” organization. The Bund also developed
Camp Hindenburg in Grafton, Wisconsin, Deutschhorst Country
Club, in Sellersville, PA

A few nazi related items have been found here in Colorado at Camp Hale, the 10th mtn division training camp during ww2. They held prisoners of the Afrika corp as well.

And we locked the Japanese up in internment camps, what about our Nazi's???

The Germans did not attack any American state as the Japanese did. I am sure it would have happened had Hitler attacked/invaded Pearl Harbor or any other part of the US.

In Evergreen Colorado, near where I live in the hills There is a lodge called the Black Forest Inn, they have records of nazi visitation during WW2. quite a few towns in eastern Colo were used to house nazi pows, one is Ovid Colo. They worked in a sugar beet factory, supposedly they liked it here so much they let em stay. Interesting info you have Jeff! Might have to do some more investigating . Thanks

I believe some German Americans got rounded up as well.

I know here in Santa Cruz, CA. where I live, Italian Americans were moved back from the coast and couldn't live within a certain distance of the cliffs. These were long Italian fishing families here. My father-in-law who was Navy Air in the South Pacific during WWII sadly shared stories of Japanese Americans he was in high school with who got sent to internment camps.

i found a very interesting item at a local "estate sale / yard sell" ... an old farmer type died and his next of kin came and cleared out the house --part of the items were some old boxes from the attic -- they were filled with WW2 era farming magazines..( please note that I lived near jacksonville .fla ... and that 4 Nazi spy's landed by submarine / rubber raft at nearby ponte vedra beach during WW2 ) --while looking thru those old WW2 era magazines (which were all in correct date order --I found a very odd thing --a 1935 dated german " nazi cruise ship" ticket from Germany to South America with a on it (Valinten Koppel) .. since being a spy was a death crime during WW2 --why in gods name would anyone keep such a thing during WW2-- then it hit me , many spys were "pre planted" into south America pre war so that they could later on sneak into America easily --and what better way to get onto the local military bases and waterfronts than to be a farmer delivering food ..and while doing so talk to folks and spy on notices posted and later use a radio to pass on info on ship sailings and such to u boats offshore

sad but true --the Japanese were easy to "pick out" since Asian's look different than "--White Americans -- "---most German Americans --looked a lot like Irish or English or other white European bloodline Americans ..

First time I've heard of it! Cool thread!

I did hear that Hitler owned land in the U.S. And I recently heard of German attack(s) on U.S. soil. That to this day we still have damage to the statue of liberty from.

I find this interesting too! Never learned that in History class!

Supposedly many of those Bombs are still laying in the North West Territories and Supposedly still
dangerous. but only Known fatalities was a Family (Wife & Kids)
