Was digging square nails and pieces of old blacksmith tools....wasn't expecting to find any coins, but out pops a nice circular object. It was getting dark, but I could see it had writing on it...lots of writing.

I'm thinking ok - probably not a coin, but any token from the gold rush era is going to be good. I carefully put it in my jacket pocket and excitedly head home.

Once home, I take a look at it with a magnifying glass...."Good for one cake of Palmolive soap free when you buy one cake" Dang it!!!

It's from The Palmolive Peet Company in Berkeley so it puts it in the early to mid 1920's. I should be more stoked about it...heck it's almost 100 years old and is in great condition.
Just not the era I was after.

Almost as good as the time I found the Sacagawea dollar coin buried 8" deep in front of a 136 year old church...quickly put it in my pocket and didn't look at it until I got home....as the faucet washed the dirt off the face of the coin....the date 2000 slowly started appearing. Dang it!
