I say the paint looks fairly new, I would strip and polish if it was mine, Im not a good source for advice though...

Sell it as is. If you are keeping it and want it copper, strip and polish it!

To sell it, sell it as is. If you want to keep it, strip the paint and polish it or treat it with liver of sulphur to put back some patina. Either way something to think about is places like Michaels were selling some similar that were plated tin from the Philippines if memory serves. So if you strip & polish it'll look like the repros.

It is a copper mailbox - Would it take away the value if I removed the black paint ?

It's not gonna break the bank either way because it's not worth too much anyway. If I liked the look of copper, I'd strip it and seal it. JMHO

I stripped it , It turns out it's Brass .
