British Rev War Pewter?

Hey guys,

Recovered this large pewter from the 3rd Regiment of foot camp site earlier this year. After a long soak in mineral oil and careful work with a tooth pick, I have managed to expose dual rope cords around the perimeter and hints of gilding underneath. I know that British buttons were typically wrapped in decorative rope, but I can't be sure of this one's origins. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this example may be from the camp?

Hoping to revive this thread as this button still has me puzzled...anyone recognize the shank construction? Not a single cast pewter loop or the conventional iron loop as seen in most British buttons. Almost resembles a turret shank as seen on French lotto buttons. There is a definitive rope around the edge, but no other visible numbers.

VMI, you are doing a great job recovering these relics. I'm glad to see them being found. Lots of history in our state and hopefully lots more to find!
